Narcissism is about the abolition of history, as an accounting presence, as an accounting force: as something against which, and in light of which, we can be held to account.

Narcissism abolishes and reinvents "history", and develops existential defences against anything of the past, and anything in the past, which calls or can (or might) call the Narcissistic "history" false, incomplete, or for what it is.

When we live in a Narcissistic age, when the constellation of personalities and institutions become imbued with the particular self-regard in which the abnegation of otherness, and the triumph of me, and my, and mine become predominant; history's influence fades.

The science of climate change, in which evidence history is central; the science of epidemiology, whose ability to know what is likely to happen is based on history; the science of evolution, and of minds...the science of anything that-has-been as evidential ground for interpretation of the present and for projecting what is likely to happen next, are collapsed by Narcissism into a heap of meaningless contradiction to what Narcissism asserts is the case. If the history of what-has-been has the temerity to challenge, it becomes an enemy. The "I am" discovery of Narcissism (in the past; in the present; in the future) does not tolerate "we are" and "they are"; or rather, You and We and They have to come within the Narcissistic Circle. Anything outside that circle is experienced as Negation.
